Roadside Grasses on the Ridge in 2007

by Bob Harms  email-here

The road bend shoulder, July 2007.

Although the strength of KR bluestem is commonly the result of regular mowing, especially along roadsides, it does not prosper in the shallow soils along our ridge. The most common roadside grasses here are poverty dropseed (Sporobolus vaginiflorus), little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium), and purple threeawn (Aristida purpurea). KR is seen here only in cracks at the very edge of the asphalt.
