The left column presents 18 images from herbarium specimens of a new species,
E. arenarius, found in deep sands along the Texas – New Mexico border. The right column has 17 images of
E. nuttallianus either from the same area or from collections that indicate the plant was in sand. Also shown is one image of
E. sericeus, from Eddy Co., NM, not in sand, but from the mountains in the western part of the county. But this is the only collection of that species from a county in which
E. arenarius has also been found. Earlier determinations on the sheet are shown in brackets.
