Yellow Show, Amoreuxia Wrightii

Propagation:

With scarification:
The hard seed shell must first be scarified, using a file to just roughen the surface. Then soak the seeds in rain water until they just begin to swell - several hours should do. Plant immediately. Do not leave to soak.

Since the seedlings are highly susceptible to damping, they should be planted only when chilly nights are no longer likely (mid May) and watered sparingly until they have true leaves. With first true leaves I transplant the seedlings, 3 to a 5-gallon pot. The thick succulent root may be 5-6 inches long at that time and may break, but the seedlings quickly recover. A deep pot is needed to allow the root (caudex) to develop. If the pot is too small to allow full development a caudex may form aboveground.

Seedling with cotyledons Tubers

During the summer Yellow Show likes full sun, but also seems to require weekly watering. The large tuberous root (caudex) is subject to freezing over the winter when in an unprotected pot. The stem will die in the fall, and may break off, but a new stem will emerge in very late spring — often after one might suspect that the plant did not survive the winter. Storing the plant in a garage or basement over the winter might be wise - although the soil should probably not become 'bone dry.'
