Red Poppy

Argemone sanguinea

Papaveraceae Purple Red White

Despite the name, the petals of the red poppy can vary from white to pink to red. Like its cousin the white prickly poppy, it is a species of open areas, overgrazed fields, and weedy areas, but it rarely forms large solid patches like that species. It ranges from South Texas, where particularly common, to the Trans-Pecos.
