Scarlet Clematis

Clematis texensis

Ranunculaceae Red

Unlike its weedier relative the virgin’s bower, the scarlet clematis is a less common denizen of canyon and slope woodlands of the Edwards Plateau. It occurs nowhere else in the world and is thus said to be “endemic” to central Texas. It needs shrubs on which to climb and flower.
