Spectacle Pod

Dimorphocarpa candicans

Brassicaceae Purple White

Palmer’s spectaclepod is an tall erect wandy annual or perennial, ranging from the Pecos River northward into the Panhandle and Rolling Plains, where it is conspicuous in areas of deep sand and sandhills. It blooms most heavily in the spring but may be found in flower as late as October. Two species of spectacle-pod (so named due to the shape of the fruit) occur in Texas, the other being found in the Trans-Pecos.
