Strawberry Cactus

Echinocereus stramineus

Cactaceae Pink

Lovers of the Big Bend country know the strawberry cactus. The “mound” can be composed of 100 or more cylindrical stems and is an impressive display in self-defense. The showy flowers transform it into a dazzling floral display, usually in April. These then give rise to fruits that are the desert epicure’s quest and delight.
