Desert Rose-mallow

Hibiscus coulteri

Malvaceae White Yellow

If you look at the woolly rose-mallow at this website, you’ll see a “typical” rose-mallow, an exuberant leafy plant that likes lots of water and sports large, showy flowers. This, on the other hand, is the desert version: tiny leaves on a small plant, and a smaller flower (about two inches wide). However, to see those flowers blooming in a Trans-Pecos desert landscape is truly a thrill. The flowers (which often have a little red in the center) appear in the spring or summer.
