Tulipan del Monte

Hibiscus martianus

Malvaceae Pink Red

This South Texas jewel is very easy to overlook until it produces its wonderful flowers, which are 2-2.5 inches across. It tends to grow in dense thorny scrub, and it is a perfect example of the unexpected beauty that can be found in such a seemingly harsh habitat. Like many South Texas plants, flowering is more dependent on rain than season.
