Beach Morning Glory

Ipomoea imperati

Convolvulaceae White

Texas is blessed with over twenty species of native morning glories. These vines have attractive foliage and large, often brightly colored flowers that open early in the morning (hence the common name). Two species are restricted to the dunes along the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, like this one that occurs only in South Texas. It is ecologically important for its role in stabilizing the dunes.
