Crameria

Krameria lanceolata

Krameriaceae Purple Red

Trailing ratany is very common almost throughout Texas and is especially fond of grassy areas on shallow soil. However, it is much overlooked because the sprawling low plant is quite nondescript, and even when the flowers are present, they are rather dark and often down among the grass. Its fruits, however, make an impression: they are very sharp-pointed sand burs, harder than the ubiquitous grass burs--also often called sand burs--well known to Texans.
