Berlandier’s Flax

Linum berlandieri var. berlandieri var. var. berlandieri

Linaceae Orange Red Yellow

Berlandier’s flax is one of the most common spring-flowering annuals of open sandy areas of many parts of Texas; it can also bloom later in the year. The two-toned petals are just barely attached and fall very easily. Both the common and the scientific names commemorate Jean Louis Berlandier (ca. 1805-1851), a French-Swiss physician who was one of the first botanists to make significant collections of Texas plants.
