Turk’s-cap is common to abundant in open woods of eastern, central and southern Texas, and it is also cultivated throughout that area. It is an erect, few-stemmed shrub that is usually 3-6 feet tall, but it can reach 10 feet tall under the best conditions. It is frequently the showiest common flower in the woods where it grows, with the added advantage that it often can be found flowering (although with wilted leaves) during the driest, hottest parts of the summer. Flowering can occur almost year-round, and the red fruit is attractive as well.
