Rock Rose
Pavonia lasiopetala
Malvaceae
Pink
The rock rose or rose pavonia is not a rose at all, but rather a relative of the hibiscus. It prefers limestone crevices and dry rocky slopes of the eastern and southern fringes of the Edwards Plateau and nearby areas. It is apparently quite tasty to wildlife and stock, because it is much browsed where accessible. It is thus often easier to find in gardens, where it has become popular because of its attractive flowers, long blooming period, and drought tolerance.
