Beardtongue

Penstemon albidus

Scrophulariaceae Purple White

This is a plant of the Panhandle plains and breaks, in gravelly or sandy soils. The leaves are like sandpaper, but the white to pale lavender flowers with purple lines in their “throats” are a High Plains treat. There are over twenty species of beardtongue (penstemon) in Texas, but there are even more in other parts of the western U. S.
