Mayapple

Podophyllum peltatum

Berberidaceae White

The mayapple is common in East Texas in woods, thickets, forest edges, and sometimes open areas. It grows in large patches and is thus fairly easy to find, but sometimes you have to look twice to see the flowers underneath the large leaves. It flowers in the spring.
