Purple Ground Cherry

Quincula lobata

Solanaceae Blue Purple

The purple ground cherry is a plant that will tolerate a lot of abuse--growing flat to the ground, it is sometimes the only color in an area of hard compacted soil, little rain, intense heat, and few plants. For that reason alone it merits our thanks and affection. It grows throughout the western two-thirds of the state in sandy or gravelly open habitats and can flower at almost any time of year.
