White Azalea
Rhododendron viscosum
Ericaceae

Cultivated azaleas are favorites in East Texas gardens, but there are two native species out in the woods as well, typically growing in wet or boggy areas or in low pine flatwoods in sandy light soils. This one, the white azalea, has white hairy flowers that appear once the leaves are full-sized and mature, typically mid-summer, but sometimes in the spring.
