Violet Ruellia

Ruellia nudiflora var. nudiflora var. var. nudiflora

Acanthaceae Pink Purple

This ruellia is most frequently encountered in central and southeastern Texas. It is very common, even becoming a yard weed (albeit a very pretty one) with a rather tenacious woody base. It can bloom at most times of the year, including during drought, but tends to flower most abundantly in the early summer. It and its relatives are often called “wild petunias”, but they are not related to the true petunia.
