Lindheimer’s senna is an erect perennial herb that can be over 4 feet tall and that blooms in the summer or, especially, the fall. It is typical of open woodlands and grasslands on limestone in the Edwards Plateau and Trans-Pecos, on shallow gravelly soil; it is little grazed. Like several species mentioned at this web site, its common and scientific names commemorate the “Father of Texas Botany”, Ferdinand Lindheimer (1801-1879), a German immigrant who settled in New Braunfels in 1844.
