Texas Mountain Laurel

Sophora secundiflora

Fabaceae Purple

As native plants have become more popular for landscape use, this beautiful native shrub or small tree has become widely planted. Just the shiny green foliage is handsome, and then the strongly fragrant spring blooms are spectacular. However, it should be noted that the bright red seeds are quite poisonous. This drought-resistant species grows native in brushy limestone areas of central, southern, and western Texas.
