Southern arrowwood is a shrub or small tree of very pleasing form, native to woodlands and thickets of East Texas, most frequently on sandy soils. Like many viburnums, it is also cultivated as an ornamental. It blooms in the spring or early summer. The straight branches were made into arrows by Native Americans, hence the common names.
