Texas Sleepy Daisy

Xanthisma texanum var. drummondii var. var. drummondii

Asteraceae Yellow

All regions of Texas have a host of “darned yellow composites” (DYCs), yellow-flowered members of the sunflower family, which is sometimes called the Compositae. This species, which grows in sandy pastures and open woodlands in much of the state, can be distinguished from other DYCs by the shingle-like green bracts that make up the outside of the flower head. In many species, those bracts are pressed tightly against the head, but in sleepy daisy the tips curve distinctly outward.
