Spanish Dagger

Yucca treculeana

Agavaceae White

The name “Spanish Dagger” is given to yuccas with stiff, pointed leaves. This is the characteristic Spanish Dagger of South Texas. The pollination of the large showy flowers, and indeed the entire survival of the yucca species, is dependent of a close relationship (symbiosis) with a species of moth (the yucca moth).
