There are 2 categories, one for those who are starting out on their research and the other for those who are currently doing research, and each are worth $200. Check out the next Science for Change lecture next Monday! Below is a description of what distinguished speaker, Neal Lane, Malcolm Gillis University Professor at Rice University, will be covering:

The fundamental framework for the U.S. federal government’s role in managing science and technology was established at the end of WWII and has not changed much in over 60 years. Meanwhile, essentially every aspect of our lives in this country and around the world has changed in profound ways, much of that due to science and technology. There are troubling signs that the present science and technology policy apparatus is failing to account for the rapid pace of discovery, increased demands for tangible benefits, and shifts in the relative position of the U.S. in the world. It may be time for a change. A few suggestions will be offered to begin that process.

This week’s meeting will feature distinguished speaker, Dr. Zhang, a professor doing research in biomedical engineering! His research involves photonic microsystems and nanotechnologies as related to cellular processes critical to development and disease. In addition to the overview of his lab, Dr. Zhang will discuss why undergraduate students should get involved in interdisciplinary research. Free food will be provided afterward.
