Pluchea odorata Cut Stem After Repeated Frost Episodes

Inspection of the stump base was undertaken by removing debris. A segment of the epidermis/cortex (C) which had earlier ruptured and dried (turned brown) but was still attached at the base was torn off. This showed that the very base of the segment was still green, and covered a developing shoot (S). Leaves (L) of the coming spring were well developed. The epidermis (E) at the very base was still intact and green. A significant expansion of the root at the stem base (B), also green, was noted at ground level.
