Field Trips
Field trip options include:
Whale Watching (This trip is running and can take more people.)
The trip departs from Randy's Fishing and Whale Watching. The trip runs from 10am - 1pm. We will leave from Asilomar at 8:30 on bus #1 to be at Randy's at 9:30. Please reserve your spot by calling either (800) 251-7440 or (831) 372-7440. Please tell them that you are with the American Society of Naturalists and Becky Fuller.
Wine Tour (This trip is running and can take more people.)
The winery trip will leave Asilomar at 1pm and visit three wineries for tastings and tours before returning around 5pm. The trip will cost $95 dollars, visiting wineries like Hahn, Pessango, Paraiso, and Wrath Winery. This is an opportunity to visit one of the top ten wine travel destinations in the world from Wine Enthusiast's 2013 list.
Monterey Bay Aquarium (This trip is running and can take more people.)
The trip to the Aquarium will depart from the Asilomar on Sunday, January 12 at 1pm and return around 5pm. Transportation will be via the local bus line in Monterey and costs $2.50. Attendees can purchase tickets online at www.montereybayaquarium.com for $35 ($32 for Seniors over 65). Alternately, tickets can be purchased at the Asilomar for the same price, but with the added benefit that the ticket is good for a return visit on the following day.
Intertidal Walk (This trip is full.)
We will meet at the Asilomar Lodge and then walk to the beach. Please bring $10 in cash. Our guides are declining to be paid. Instead, they have asked that people bring $10 that will go towards the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History, which is running the LiMPETS program in the Monterey Bay area (see limpetsmonitoring.org).
Kayaking (This trip is running and can take more people.)
Kayakers will be transported from the kayak shop in Moss Landing to Kirby Park and will ride the tide back to the shop in Moss Landing. Kayakers will need to be at the Moss Landing store by 9:30.
