Distribution of Berberis Taxa at Purola Preserve in N. Hays County

by Bob Harms  email-here
In July 2008 the Berberis plants that were the basis of my phenological survey from 2004 through 2007 were plotted as a Google Earth overlay of the Purola Preserve, using my GPS. Each plant was photographed and gps coordinates noted, a total of 113 gps points. (All hybrids are plotted, even though most were not included in my phenological study.)

A Google Maps version of these points is given below. Clicking on any icon will generate a window with a picture of the plant(s) at that point, a short comment and the coordinates of the point. Three types of icons represent the status of the plants:

Berberis trifoliolata (30 plants)
Berberis swaseyi (33 plants)
Hybrids (50 plants)

But Google Maps does not permit sizing or exact placing of icons. For a much better view, download the following kmz file, and open it in the Google Earth application:

Download Google Earth kmz formatted presentation of Berberis plants at Purola Preserve that were included in my survey.

Please zoom to the maximum level to obtain a somewhat better separation of the icons representing individual plants. Even so, the result will not be comparable to the source kmz file noted above.
