Bixaceae – Chiote family
Amoreuxia wrightii — Wright's yellowshow
Cultivated only. A. wrightii has persisted in 5-gallon pots, with well-drained soil and frequent summer watering, for almost 20 years. Only once did it escape into the heavy clay soil, but that plant didn't survive long.
I got my start from 6 seeds that Carol Abbott in Kerrville sent as a bonus for subscribing to his wildflower newsletter long ago. For at least the past decade my small population has been the sole source of seeds for this species; but in 2007 I donated all my seeds to the Wildflower Center in Austin.
